Jarred Wilhite, known by his stage name AtypiCLE (formerly known as J.Rod), is an American underground rapper. He changed his name to AtypiCLE to pay homage to his beloved hometown of Cleveland, Ohio and to help himself stand out in the underground rap scene. He has been rapping since the age of 19, and continues to show progression in his music with every new song and project he releases. He is well known for his use of clean, non-explicit and thought provoking lyrics.
AtypiCLE and his brother, Justin were raised in Cleveland, Ohio by their parents, Chuck and Myrita Wilhite. His family has always been very supportive of all of his interests. They recall instances of him being interested in music at a very young age, and always gravitating toward hip-hop music despite his quiet, calm demeanor. Although he was interested in rap, he did not begin rapping until his sophomore year of college. One major reason that he decided to try his hand at rapping was that he wanted to shed the label of a “shy, quiet, timid kid”. He also began rapping for the sheer enjoyment and passion for hip-hop. His goal is not to gain fame from rap but to inspire others through his music
He has worked on a few solo independent projects including mixtapes, “Atyp1CLE”, “Turn Me Up Some” and “Make My Mark.” He also enters YouTube rap contests, and has placed 3 in four of them. He has also received a handful of Honorable Mentions in various contests. He has performed at gigs throughout Ohio, including opening for Cleveland artists like King Chip and iPhonic.
In addition to being a rapper, AtypiCLE is currently a student at the University of Cincinnati and will be receiving his Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering this year. He will be attending graduate school in Fall 2014 to earn a Master’s degree in Aeronautics & Astronautics. In the future, he hopes to effectively balance his musical interests with his engineering career.
